No Choice is No Good

You can tell it’s Spring in Boise, Idaho’s north end.  Every other house has a home remodeling or landscape design sign in the yard advertising its hired help.

I was running with my dog this morning when I spotted said signs, and it made me think about the value of choice.  I am sure every homeowner interviewed several contractors, reviewed bids, and checked references before deciding on the lucky company that was going to make that homeowner’s dreams come true.  They probably appreciated the fact that they had more than one seller to choose from.

The same can be said for the public relations business.  The more firms there are to choose from, the greater the chance for client satisfaction. Choice creates competition and levels the playing field. It forces firms to define who they are and consider their competitive offerings.  It requires them to work harder and smarter.  If not, the customer goes with the other guy.  Choice and competition are good for the industry, and good for the buyer.

It’s good to see all the lawn signs around the neighborhood.  I like that homeowners have so much choice. I also like it that those in the market for public relations counsel have a choice, too.
